Permissions

The Oregon Historical Society (OHS) owns the content on the Oregon History Project. All materials, including essays and images, may not be reproduced in print or electronically without written permission from the Oregon Historical Society.

Teachers and educational organizations may use the content on the Oregon History Project for educational purposes. They do not need to obtain permission to use site materials for classroom exercises or teacher workshops. Website administrators may create a direct link to the Oregon History Project from their websites without obtaining permission from OHS. Teachers and educational organizations may not reproduce OHP content in publications of any kind — paper or electronic — or on websites without written permission from the Oregon Historical Society.

The reproduction of content of any length without express permission from OHS is a violation of copyright even if the content is attributed to the Oregon Historical Society.

Notice and Takedown Policy

In order to make its collections available to the widest audience possible, the OHP has placed reproductions of items from our collections online. In each instance, we have tried to make sure that we have secured all necessary rights. If you believe that we have made a mistake, please contact us so that we can correct the oversight.

It is our policy to respond to notices of alleged infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act in an appropriate manner under such Act and other applicable intellectual property laws, including the removal or disabling of access to material claimed to be subject of infringing activity. Pursuant to title 17 United States Code 512(c)(2) (Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998), The Oregon Historical Society has designated an agent for notice of alleged copyright infringement appearing on the OHS Digital Collections site.

To file a notice of infringement, you must fulfill the requirements specified in Title II of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. All infringement claims must be in writing and must include the following information:

  • A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or the person authorized to act on its behalf;
  • description of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed;
  • description of the infringing material and information reasonably sufficient to permit OHS to locate the material;
  • Your contact information, including your address, telephone number, and email;
  • statement by you that you have a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
  • A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and, under the pains and penalties of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
